And here’s some updates from the Level 3 students. Interestingly, they have actually found the participatory nature of the brief a bit harder to get their heads around. They are also a bit more ambitious, so their ideas will need a bit more time to be fully realised. Nonetheless, they are coming along.
One group is exploring stencilled text on public buildings - using the university space as a canvas. This doesn’t sound that radical, but it would be very new in the context of the university, and a good safe place to start developing the notion of public interventions. They had never stencilled before, so are starting to explore the mechanics of it - materials, colours, size, arrangement. They originally were going to create hanging cloths to be placed around the space, but we have some new, pretty exciting ideas … more on that next week.
Another one is all about headsĀ - the idea being to visualise internal thoughts. There is also some discussion about scale here - from the very small to the very large. There’s also debate about materials too - polystyrene seems pretty popular amongst the students, but it remains to be seen how well this will translate in the final works. The clay option looks good to me…
So - all in all, doing ok. They have quite a long way to go, but i think the end results will be interesting.
I do have a backlog of other uploads, particularly the long-promised video footage of our musicians explaining their instruments, but uploading those seems nigh-impossible. I think this is some kind of bandwidth issue, but i am trying to resolve it …
